Draft Law to Allow Permanent Status to Health Card Scheme
The provincial administration of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has drafted a law titled “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universal Health Coverage Act, 2021” to assure the sustainability and control of the Sehat Sahulat Programme (SSP) for free treatment of the populace.

According to officials, the proposed law being reviewed by the law department is intended to institutionalize the free health insurance programme and make it mandatory for the government to continue providing the basic health needs of the people.
Under the law, a commission with a permanent Board of Governors would be established to make timely judgements regarding the prompt provision of services to patients.
To date, the government has spent Rs 12 billion on free medical care for citizens. After extending the programme to the entire province, the number of patients has increased significantly.

Dr. Aamir Rafiq, Deputy Director of the SSP, informed the concerned officials that the law was intended to give the programme permanent status with sufficient control and sustainability for the long-term health benefits of the people.
