Dubai to Launch Flying Taxis in 2026
Dubai’s Vice-President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved designs for new air taxi stations, making it the first city to have a fully built network of vertiports. The project aims to provide a zero-emissions ride from start to finish and will be developed in partnership with Skyports Infrastructure and Joby Aviation.
Dubai’s air taxis will begin operating in three years and have a maximum speed of 300 km/h and a range of 241 km. Each taxi will accommodate one pilot and four passengers, and the vertiport network will connect four key areas in the city: Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina.

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) exhibited a simulation of the flying taxis during the World Government Summit, allowing people to experience the innovative transportation method. Due to the aircraft’s vertical take-off and landing capabilities, it will have a rapid turnaround time, making it a convenient and efficient mode of transportation.
The introduction of air taxis and the development of vertiports are part of Dubai’s efforts to promote sustainable transportation and support the development of a smart city. The project also aligns with the United Arab Emirates’ goals to develop and support innovative and environmentally-friendly technologies.
