E-courses on Harassment, Challenged Students’ HEIs Launched
Lahore: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has launched e-courses on its policies on ‘Protection against Sexual Harassment in Higher Education Institutions’ and ‘Policy for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education Institutions’ to make universities in Pakistan safer and more inclusive for students, faculty, and administrative staff.

In conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, and the Australian High Commission in Pakistan, e-courses were launched.
The courses will be hosted by the National Academy of Higher Education.
HEC Executive Director Dr. Shaista Sohail, speaking at the virtual launch ceremony, stated that the role of HEIs was crucial in highlighting and promoting the value of adhering to fundamental principles and high moral standards.
Sharmeela Rasool, country representative for UN Women, highlighted that the vast majority of women are still unaware of the legal safeguards available to them. She emphasised the importance of increasing women’s understanding of legal protection.

In addition, plans to develop an umbrella PC-I to gradually support universities in renovating infrastructure, labs, and equipment, and policies for control of tobacco and drug abuse, as well as the use of security cameras on campuses, are among the numerous initiatives currently being implemented to create a free, tolerant, safe, and supportive learning environment in higher education institutions.
