Establishment of First Gem Processing City on CLards
According to news sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan has declared the development of a “gem, mineral, and jewellery city” to increase exports and bring the industry up to world standards.

Engineer Gul Asghar Khan, head of the authorities’ jewels and minerals task group, briefed the prime minister on the areas selected for the development of the planned gem city, as well as the possibilities and advantages of constructing a gem processing facility in the country.
In addition, the premier noted that the global market for gems and jewellery has an annual export potential of $5 billion, which would help stabilise the economy and create riches for the locals. According to reports, Pakistan is the eighth-largest producer of gems in the world.
In addition, the premier requested that the necessary authorities establish a single point of contact for resolving remaining concerns and conflicts in the proposed city.

It is essential to emphasise that the venture will initially be handled through a public-private collaboration, and that international certification will be achieved to standardise the gem processing techniques and make them more marketable on the international stage.
