Extension of Kalma Chowk Underpass Flyover Proposed by LDA
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has reportedly proposed the construction of a one-way flyover to offer access to the central business district (CBD) in Lahore. The CBD has requested technical assistance from the LDA in order to gain direct access to the district from Kala Chowk.

According to estimates, the revamped design and strategy of the LDA Engineering Wing would reduce construction costs by 3 billion Pakistani rupees. The underpass at Kalma Chowk would be extended in a V-shape, with traffic diverted to the central business district. The second portion of the passageway will lead to Firdous Market. From a one-way flyover, traffic coming from Firdous Market will be routed to Liberty. In this context, CBD Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Imran Amin held a consultation with LDA Director General (DG) Ahmad Aziz Tarar. The CBD may also assign the duty of restoring Kala Chowk to the LDA. The CBD will make the final decision regarding the implementation of the LDA plan.

CBD has auctioned all the commercial plots in its flagship Lahore Downtown in an unprecedented effort to generate income. The project’s infrastructure will be environmentally friendly. However, given the location of the project and the increasing traffic in Gulberg, the LDA has suggested road reconstruction and widening. In addition, the Punjab government has proposed an elevated highway from Gulberg to the M-2 motorway to reduce traffic congestion.
