ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has canceled the planned auction of a Bahria Town property in Rawalpindi that was scheduled to recover outstanding tax dues of around Rs. 26 billion.

The property covers 32 kanal and 11 marla in Bahria Golf City, Rawalpindi, and includes a constructed house. FBR had announced the auction in September 2026 as part of its efforts to recover tax liabilities.

The auction was scheduled for October 6 at the Large Taxpayers’ Office in Islamabad. According to the auction notice, the property was linked to tax dues of approximately Rs. 26.47 billion.

The cancellation follows a Supreme Court order issued on September 29. The court restrained FBR from recovering the reported Rs. 26 billion tax amount from Bahria Town and from taking enforcement action against the group in connection with the matter.

The court order affected the recovery process, leading to the withdrawal of the scheduled auction.

FBR had previously taken similar recovery measures involving properties associated with Bahria Town. Earlier this year, the tax authority auctioned a property on Park Road in Islamabad, with the sale reportedly generating around Rs. 2 billion.

The tax authority also conducted an auction involving approximately 527 kanals of land in Tehsil Murree in July 2026. These actions were part of FBR’s efforts to recover outstanding tax liabilities through available legal procedures.

The latest development highlights how court proceedings can affect recovery actions involving high-value properties. Any further enforcement measures will depend on subsequent legal proceedings and court directions.

For property buyers and investors, the case also underlines the importance of checking ownership records, legal claims and outstanding liabilities before purchasing high-value real estate.
