FBR Decides to Establish Check Posts in FATA and PATA
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to establish Inland Revenue Enforcement Network (IREN) check posts to ensure foolproof surveillance of exit points from non-taxable areas, such as the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (PATA), to taxable territories.

Several important adjustments have been made to the Sales Tax Act, 1990 (STA, 1990), as applicable to various industries based in the former FATA/PATA territories, by the Finance Act, 2021.
Consequently, a FATA/PATA-domiciled individual with “Active Taxpayer” status under Section 2(1) of the STA 1990 would continue to import raw materials for consumption at his manufacturing site against the deposit of post-dated cheques (PDC) in accordance with its determined installed production capacity.
The FBR’s CGO No. 1 of 2021, Circular No. 5 of 2021, Circular No. 9 of 2021, and Circular No. 13 of 2021 continue to govern the importation, transportation, exemption (from import-stage income tax), and consumption of raw materials.

FBR noted that the Regional Tax Office in Peshawar will build a tax office in the Malakand Division to facilitate the rapid release of consignments, the processing of Consumption and Exemption Certificates, and the effective and timely implementation of the law in letter and spirit.
