The government is preparing to grant the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) authority to investigate civil servants whose assets appear disproportionate to their declared income, especially in cases where asset declarations continue over three consecutive years.

The proposal was discussed during a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue, where officials from the Establishment Division informed lawmakers about a new AI-powered monitoring system designed to identify unusual increases in the wealth of government officers.

Under the planned system, artificial intelligence will generate red-flag alerts whenever suspicious growth in assets is detected, enabling authorities to carry out further scrutiny.

Establishment Division Secretary Nabeel Awan told the committee that by December 2026, financial and asset declarations of government officers from Grade 17 to Grade 22 will be digitally available to the public through a system being developed in coordination with the FBR.

The framework will also require civil servants to disclose details regarding family-owned assets and foreign travel records.

According to officials, senior FBR authorities, including the chairman and member inland revenue, will have the power to launch investigations if the AI system flags abnormal wealth accumulation.

The initiative is intended to enhance transparency and strengthen financial oversight of public officials through digital monitoring and automated risk analysis.
