GB Traders Want Khunjerab Border Released Next Month
Gilgit: If the Khunjerab pass is not opened by April, local traders have threatened to close the Karakoram Highway.
As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the border crossing between Pakistan and China has been closed since October 2019.
Zulfiqar Ali, the association’s president, who presided over the meeting and spoke occasionally, claimed that local traders’ goods worth billions of rupees were stuck in warehouses on the Chinese side of the border. He claimed that these items had allegedly been removed from the warehouses by the Chinese government.

Activities between the two nations for almost two years were akin to killing the locals financially.
He noted that the trade passing through the Khunjerab pass was responsible for about 70% of Gilgit-economic Baltistan’s activity.
Trade and travel through the Khunjerab pass are permitted according to a protocol agreement signed by the two nations from April to December. The Covid-19 emergency, however, has necessitated its extended closure.
