Google has officially introduced the Fitbit Air, a new screenless fitness tracker designed for both Android and iOS users, alongside a major rebrand of the Fitbit app into the new Google Health platform.

The Fitbit Air enters the growing market of screenless fitness wearables and is being positioned as a competitor to devices like Whoop. Unlike some rival fitness bands, Google confirmed that the Fitbit Air does not require a paid subscription for core functionality.

At the same time, Google announced Google Health Premium, formerly known as Fitbit Premium, priced at $9.99 per month or $99 annually. The subscription is also included with Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans.

Design and Health Features

The Fitbit Air will be available in three different band styles:

  • Performance Loop Band
  • Sweat-resistant Active Band
  • Elevated Modern Band for fashion-focused users

The device includes several advanced health and fitness tracking features, including:

  • Continuous heart rate monitoring
  • Heart rhythm tracking with Afib alerts
  • SpO2 monitoring
  • Resting heart rate tracking
  • Heart rate variability monitoring
  • Sleep tracking and sleep stage analysis

Google said the tracker can automatically recognize common workouts and improve tracking personalization over time.

Additional features include cardio target tracking, readiness scores, distance and step tracking, breathing regularity monitoring, Smart Wake alarms, and detailed sleep summaries.

The Fitbit Air also supports interchangeable bands and works with both Android and iPhone devices. Pixel Watch users will also be able to sync their smartwatch data with the Fitbit Air through the Google Health app.

Google Health Powered by Gemini AI

Google is officially replacing the Fitbit app with Google Health after nearly 15 years. The new platform is powered by Gemini AI and introduces a feature called Google Health Coach.

The AI-based coach can:

  • Build personalized fitness plans
  • Adapt workouts using real-time activity data
  • Analyze sleep and wellness habits
  • Detect health and behavior patterns
  • Offer guidance for healthier routines

Google Health also adds nutrition tracking through meal photos and AI conversations, menstrual cycle tracking, and access to health records in select regions including the US and Japan.

The company says users will have privacy controls to manage AI training preferences, export or delete data, and remove their Google Health account if desired.

The free version of Google Health includes basic activity and wellness tracking, while the Premium tier unlocks advanced features like Adaptive Fitness Plans, Detailed Sleep Insights, AI coaching, workout libraries, and mindfulness sessions.

Battery and Pricing

Google claims the Fitbit Air can deliver up to one week of battery life and supports fast charging that provides one full day of usage in just five minutes.

The standard Fitbit Air is priced at $99.99 and includes a three-month trial of Google Health Premium. Replacement bands will start at $34.99.

Google also revealed a special edition Fitbit Air designed in collaboration with NBA star Stephen Curry. The limited-edition version features a brown-and-orange design, water-resistant coating, and improved airflow design.

The Stephen Curry edition will launch on May 26 with a price tag of $129.99.
