Google to Delete Accounts Inactive for Two Years
Google has recently announced a new security measure whereby inactive accounts that have been dormant for two years or more will be deleted. Although the updated policy is now in effect, the actual deletion process will commence in December. To ensure users are informed, Google will send multiple warning notifications before initiating the phased deletion of inactive accounts.
The initial phase of deletions will target accounts that were created but never used again. It’s important to highlight that this policy solely applies to personal accounts, while organizations like schools and businesses will not be affected.

Google’s decision is rooted in internal findings that suggest older accounts pose a higher risk of security breaches due to recycled passwords and outdated security measures. Potential issues associated with such accounts include phishing, hacking, and spam.
This new approach differs from Google’s previous policy, which solely involved removing content from unused services without deleting the accounts themselves.

To retain your account, simply log in to your Google account or any Google service and engage in any activity, such as reading an email, watching a video, or performing a search.
