Government Acquires 32,073 Acres for Diamer-Basha Dam
The government has bought 32,073 acres of land for the Diamer-Basha Dam project, which is projected to be finished by April 2029 and will satisfy the country’s expanding water and energy needs.

According to official data, the overall anticipated cost of the Diamer-Basha Dam project is Rs 14.06 billion, which includes PC-I (purchase of land and resettlement) Rs 1.75 billion, PC-I (Dam Part) Rs 4.79 billion, and PC-I (yet-to-be-approved power generation facilities) Rs 7.50 billion.
Since 2009/10, the previous government spent Rs8.6 billion on the dam under the acquisition of land and resettlement (AL&R), whereas the current administration has spent Rs3 billion under AL&R and Rs5 billion on the project.
In addition, thanks to the current government, which gives importance to the completion of mega power projects and allocated Rs 15.5 billion for the dam portion and Rs 7 billion for AL&R for the fiscal year 2020/21, the dam portion of the project will be completed.

The finance strategy for the power generation facilities consists of Rs 7.6 billion in Wapda equity, Rs 4.29 billion in commercial financing, and Rs 2.46 billion in the integrated water flow model demand calculator (IDC), which would be recovered via tariff.
