Government Asked to Ensure Proper Land Settlement in Tribals
Peshawar: Speakers at a seminar here on Sunday urged the government to carry out thorough land settlement in all districts of the former Fata to stop armed confrontations among the tribes as they expressed concern over the rise in land disputes in the tribal districts.
They also criticised the establishment of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) committees in tribal areas, comparing the new system to the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), which had been eliminated following the merger of the erstwhile Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In order to lighten the load on the courts, the provincial government had previously announced that ADR had been extended to the tribal districts and that the jirga system had been given legal protection.
According to the proclamation, the government should implement specific methods to settle minor border issues between the tribes.
According to the speakers, during the operations in the tribal territories, homes and commercial buildings were totally demolished and locals lost their means of subsistence.
In the declaration, the government was encouraged to exempt residents of the combined districts from all taxes for at least the next 20 years.
