KARACHI: The federal government is planning to expand the Karachi Industrial Park to support industrial growth, attract investment and increase export-oriented business activity in the city.
The expansion is being facilitated by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Officials said the industrial park is being developed as a platform for businesses focused on manufacturing, investment and exports.
A Federal Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZA) is also planned to oversee the industrial park and coordinate its implementation. The proposed authority is expected to provide an institutional framework for managing the special economic zone.

A delegation from the Federal SEZA recently met representatives of Karachi’s business community to discuss the proposed expansion and related investment issues. The delegation was led by SIFC Additional Secretary Sajid Qazi.
During the meeting, business representatives raised concerns about operational challenges and discussed measures that could make investment and industrial activities easier. Officials also considered ways to improve coordination between investors and relevant government institutions.
The government believes the expansion could create additional space for industrial businesses and encourage new investment in Karachi. Greater industrial activity could also support employment and strengthen the city’s role as a major commercial and manufacturing centre.
Officials said SIFC facilitation is aimed at reducing obstacles faced by investors and creating a more supportive environment for businesses. The focus remains on attracting investment and developing projects that can contribute to exports.

Further details about the expansion, including its size, investment requirements and implementation timeline, are expected as the project moves through the planning process.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to expand industrial capacity and improve investment opportunities in Karachi through special economic zones and private-sector participation.
