Government Proposes Manufacturer License for Brand
Islamabad: The federal government has proposed requiring manufacturers to acquire brand licences for each distinct brand or Stock Keeping Unit (SKU).

According to an amendment to the financial bill for FY22, any defined brand or SKU found to be marketed without a licence from FBR will be considered counterfeit and subject to confiscation and destruction in accordance with the law, as well as other penalties.
It may be emphasised that SKU is a scannable barcode, which is typically printed on retail goods labels. In addition to the characters, the label has a code that tracks the price, product specifications, and manufacturer, allowing suppliers to automatically follow the movement of inventories.

Similarly, it has been proposed to impose a 7.5% advance tax on residential consumers who are not on the active taxpayers list and whose monthly electricity bills exceed Rs 25,000. The current tax rate for domestic consumers whose monthly gross bill exceeds Rs 75,000 is 7.5%.
