Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that an increase in Pakistan’s defense budget is necessary in light of the country’s current security environment and regional challenges.
Speaking to a private television channel on Wednesday, Sanaullah said Pakistan continues to face a complex security situation and must ensure that its defense capabilities remain strong and well-funded.
He stated that the country is navigating difficult regional circumstances while maintaining stability and resilience, making adequate defense spending an important national priority.
According to the minister, defense allocations should reflect existing security realities, and Pakistan must remain prepared to respond to evolving challenges in the region.
Commenting on the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan, Sanaullah described it as a significant reform that strengthened provincial autonomy by transferring greater powers from the federal government to the provinces.
He noted that the amendment has been widely appreciated because it allowed provinces to take a larger role in governance and decision-making.
However, he emphasized that increased authority also brings greater responsibility, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, and other social services that fall under provincial jurisdiction.
Sanaullah urged provincial governments to play a more active role in managing social sector responsibilities and ensuring effective delivery of public services to citizens.
His remarks come ahead of the federal budget, where defense spending is expected to remain a key area of discussion amid ongoing regional security concerns.
