Gujranwala Businessmen Ready to Invest in Cargo Train
Gujrat: The Gujranwala business sector has shown its willingness to run a cargo railway between Gujranwala and Karachi for commercial purposes.

The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has also attempted to sign a lease arrangement to convert the freight terminal of the city’s main railway station into a dry port for the export and import of containers carrying commodities.
In addition, Gujranwala, which has 21,000 units of cottage industry and is the second largest commercial hub in Pakistan after Karachi since it has the most diversified industrial sectors, has not been connected to the motorway.
Umar Ashraf Mughal, president of the GCCI, informed the relevant officials that the chamber’s proposal had been approved by the chief minister of Punjab and that a consultant had been hired in this regard; however, the government was required to provide Rs 900 million for the acquisition of land for the motorway.

Initially, it was proposed to launch the cargo train from the Wazirabad railway station, which is located in the centre of the golden triangle districts of Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sialkot. However, the cargo terminal at Wazirabad was deemed insufficient compared to the capacity of the terminal at Gujranwala station.
