Senior meteorologist Muhammad Aslam has warned of rising temperatures across southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, advising citizens to take precautionary measures as a heatwave is expected to intensify in the coming days.
He said temperatures are likely to increase by 3 to 4 degrees after May 6, urging people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity, especially between 10 am and 4 pm, when heat levels are at their peak.
Speaking to local media, he noted that hospitals are already seeing an increase in patients suffering from heat-related illnesses due to the ongoing hot weather conditions.
He advised the public to stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, and protect themselves from direct sunlight by using caps, scarves, or other coverings when stepping outside.
He also recommended consuming plenty of water and natural fluids such as sugarcane juice to maintain hydration during extreme heat.
The meteorologist strongly discouraged outdoor movement during peak hours and particularly warned vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and outdoor workers, to take extra care.
Farmers were also advised to protect livestock by ensuring adequate shade, clean drinking water, and proper shelter, as rising temperatures may put animals under stress.
Motorists were urged to take precautions while traveling in hot weather, including carrying water, avoiding long journeys during peak heat hours, and ensuring their vehicles are in good condition to prevent breakdowns.
He further emphasized the importance of following guidance issued by local authorities and regularly checking updates from the Meteorological Department to stay safe during the heatwave conditions.
