High-Rise Built in Karachi’s Clifton in Violation of SC Orders
In flagrant defiance of Supreme Court rulings, a 19-story residential commercial structure is being constructed in Clifton Cantonment, Karachi. On January 22, 2019, a two-judge panel presided over by Justice Gulzar Ahmed prohibited the conversion of residential and amenity plots to commercial use “across the entirety of Karachi City, including cantonment districts.”

During a civil petition (No. 815-K/2016) hearing about unauthorized construction on evacuee property in Lyari, the interim order was issued. No further order to alter or annul it was issued.

Nonetheless, it obstructed the planned entry to the residential units of Zamzam Arcade from the side street and was demolished during construction.
According to one local, the kachra kundi used to service the adjacent residential area as well as the commercial/residential towers of Forum Mall, Ashiana Mall, and Vincy Mall. Currently, the kachra is being tossed in nullahs and on the streets.
