IG Islamabad Tasked with Enforcing Severe Driving License
Qazi Jamil ur Rehman, Inspector General of Police in Islamabad, has recommended that more stringent driving licence examinations be adopted so that as many lives as possible can be safeguarded.

Tuesday, the IGP reportedly visited the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) Headquarters and was informed on the protocol for conducting driving licence exams at the headquarters. Syed Karar Hussain, SSP (Traffic), was promoted to the position of IGP. On the scene were also SP (Traffic) and other law enforcement officers.
In a report to the IGP, the SSP (Traffic) said that more than 35,000 vehicles had been cited for traffic rule violations over the previous week. Several measures, including the provision of mobile phones to sergeants, software for digital challans and driving permits, traffic education, and the free distribution of helmets to road users, were said to be in place to assist the locals.

IG Qazi Jamil ur Rehman appreciated the ITP’s efforts and challenged them to improve their services even further. In addition, he questioned the applicants about the testing technique.
He feels that the driving test should be significantly more severe, and that only qualified individuals should be issued a licence. He further recommended that traffic laws be properly followed on the Srinagar Highway and the Expressway in particular.
