IHC Prohibits CDA From Demolishing Islamabad’s Katchi Abadis
According to press reports, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has prohibited the Capital Development Authority (CDA) from demolishing the city’s “Katchi Abadis.”

Justice Athar Minallah, Chief Justice of the IHC, presided over a single bench and ordered CDA to provide a report on the subject. As a result of the questions made in the petition that sparked the hearing, the judge also issued notifications to the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP).
In addition, the court has designated Omer Ijaz Gillani, Abid Hassan Minto, Vice Chairman of the Islamabad Bar Council, Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council, and Abid Saqi as amici curiae in this case.
In addition, the court ordered the Director General (DG) and Chairman of the CDA of the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority to produce a detailed report explaining why working-class residents in Katchi Abadi were not eligible for the allotment.

The secretary of housing and works was required to produce a report on the federal government’s policy on the rights of decades-long Katchi Abadi residents. The case was postponed until August 25, and in the meanwhile, the court ordered CDA to refrain from demolishing Katchi Abadis.
