Inauguration of Overdue Juglot-Skardu Road Project by PM

Imran Khan, the Pakistani prime minister, is most likely to dedicate the long-overdue Gilgit-Skardu Road in the next week. The 167-kilometer Juglot-Skardu road is wide.

This project was first mentioned in publications in 2009, and work on it began in 2017. This project took four years to finish and just finished on December 9. The sources claim that PM Imran Khan may attend the Juglot-Skardu road’s opening ceremony.

The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) created a road renovation plan that included alignments and tunnels, but the project was finished without them. The leaders of the local traders have addressed a letter in this regard to the Chief of Army Staff.

According to FWO officers, construction on at least half a dozen tunnels is taking place along this route. The letter also mentions that the road has unquestionably been extended in line with the current structure of the route. However, both the tunnels and alignment a part of the mission were deleted for unclear reasons later.

The letter said, “The tunnels have been removed from the landslide sites, thus the unpredictability of road closure due to landslides will remain there.”

Due to its narrowness and abrupt curves, the old route that was frequented by the populace was hazardous. That is why travelers used to fly to Skardu to visit. The brand-new road has since been improved by adding wide lanes with secure turns.

FWO initially built the road in 1984, but it deteriorated due to soil slide and significant rainfall. Because people were interested in visiting Skardu frequently, it was crucial to upgrade the roads to reduce traffic and accidents. Currently, the road is 7.3 meters wide instead of the previous 3.6 meters.

Asad Umar, the minister of planning and development, gave the authorities the order to give all the resources to the laborers needed for road construction in order for the project to be finished in June 2022.

According to him, the project will facilitate tourism, contribute to the nation’s financial stability, and provide more jobs for the unemployed. Additionally, he stated that land acquisition for the Skardu-Hyderabad Motorway should be finished as quickly as possible to allow for an earlier start to construction.
