Senior journalist and television anchor Iqrar ul Hassan has formally entered politics with the launch of his new political party, the Awaam Raj Party, marking a significant shift from media to active political engagement.
Iqrar ul Hassan is widely recognised for his investigative journalism and public-interest reporting. Over the years, he has built a strong following by highlighting corruption, social injustices, and everyday problems faced by ordinary citizens across Pakistan.
Announcing his move, Hassan said the purpose of forming the Awaam Raj Party is to give common people a stronger and more direct voice in national decision-making. He stressed that Pakistan needs transparent leadership, accountability, and policies rooted in public needs. According to him, journalism helped expose problems, but politics offers a platform to work toward real solutions.
Supporters believe his transition into politics could resonate with young voters and citizens who feel disillusioned with traditional political parties. Many argue that his media background has given him deep insight into public issues and grassroots realities.
However, critics say the move will test his credibility, noting that governance presents challenges very different from investigative reporting. Political analysts see the launch of the Awaam Raj Party as a new and interesting development in Pakistan’s political landscape. While its electoral strength remains to be seen, Iqrar ul Hassan’s entry into politics has already sparked debate and drawn widespread public attention.
His decision reflects a broader trend of public figures stepping beyond commentary and into politics, hoping to influence change through direct participation in the country’s democratic process.
