Iran Proposal to Renounce Rates on Agri-Products
Islamabad: Tuesday, the National Food Security Minister, Syed Fakhar Imam, reportedly welcomed Iran’s proposal to abolish tariffs on Pakistani agricultural exports to Iran.

Mr. Imam told Syed Mohammad Ali Hussaini, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, who had paid him a visit, that Pakistan’s surplus of 8 million tonnes of rice is sufficient to meet Iran’s whole rice need.
He also remarked that the export potential of Pakistan’s citrus fruits, grains, mangoes, onions, potatoes, fisheries, and livestock was considerable. He praised Prime Minister Imran Khan’s efforts to improve the agriculture sector through the implementation of appropriate policy initiatives. He stated that local agriculture has been teetering on obsolete agricultural practices, and that it is time to look to the future in terms of modernization.

Fakhar Imam lauded the efforts of the current government, noting that the greatest barrier to research over the past seven decades has been a lack of funding. Syed Mohammad Ali Hussaini, addressing at the ceremony, mentioned that Iran imports several agricultural products from Pakistan and has a significant market for livestock, red meat, and seafood.
He stated that Iran and Pakistan should take advantage of their 900-kilometer border to strengthen their commercial and economic ties.
