Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced plans to establish new fire stations across the city to improve emergency response and strengthen the operational capacity of the Karachi Fire Brigade.

The proposed new stations will be set up in District West, Keamari, Malir, and District East, aiming to reduce response times and better handle the rising number of fire incidents in the city.

The decision was taken during a meeting held at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) headquarters, which focused on upgrading the city’s firefighting infrastructure and improving emergency preparedness.

Officials, including Municipal Commissioner Abrar Jaffer, briefed the meeting on ongoing rehabilitation work at several fire stations such as Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Korangi, Bolton Market, and North Karachi. The mayor directed that all upgrade projects be completed by May 30, emphasizing urgency due to increasing fire emergencies.

He highlighted that Karachi, as Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub, requires a modern and well-equipped firefighting system, along with sustained investment in emergency services.

The municipal commissioner also informed the meeting that procurement worth Rs. 292 million has been completed for firefighting and urban rescue equipment. This includes hydraulic rescue tools, industrial fans, generators, water bowsers, snorkel repairs, protective gear, mobile lighting towers, and other essential equipment.

Additionally, the mayor ordered the immediate repair and activation of 17 non-functional fire vehicles, directing departments to ensure they are restored and deployed without delay to enhance emergency response capacity.
