ISLAMABAD: Construction of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass in Islamabad is progressing rapidly, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressing hope that the project will open to traffic within the next 10 days.

Speaking during a visit to the construction site, Naqvi said work had reached its 12th day, with the Capital Development Authority (CDA), contractors, and relevant teams working around the clock to complete the underpass as soon as possible.

The project aims to reduce traffic congestion at Kashmir Chowk, a key junction for motorists travelling from different parts of the country towards Murree. Its completion is expected to improve traffic movement and provide a smoother route for commuters passing through the area.

According to the interior minister, construction activities have continued without a complete suspension of traffic or major diversions. However, commuters may have faced some temporary inconvenience during the work. Coordination between the CDA and Islamabad traffic police has helped keep vehicles moving around the construction site.

Naqvi said the underpass would be opened once the construction work was completed. He also expressed his intention to invite Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend the inauguration ceremony.

The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve Islamabad’s road infrastructure and manage traffic at busy intersections. Its expected opening within the stated timeframe will depend on the completion of the remaining work.

Once operational, the Kashmir Chowk Underpass is expected to support smoother journeys for residents, daily commuters, and travellers heading towards Murree.
