ISLAMABAD: Construction of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass has crossed the halfway mark, with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) reporting 51 percent completion of the Rs1.4 billion infrastructure project. Work is progressing towards the target of completing the underpass by the end of the first week of November.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the project on October 6, with a 30-day completion timeline. The underpass is designed to improve traffic flow at Kashmir Chowk and strengthen connectivity between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to a CDA official, construction activities have advanced rapidly since work began. CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf also visited the site to review progress on civil and structural works and assess the performance of the teams involved.

During the inspection, the CDA chairman directed project managers and engineering staff to maintain construction momentum while ensuring quality, safety and effective coordination. He also stressed the importance of monitoring progress and using available resources efficiently to meet the announced deadline.

The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve Islamabad’s road infrastructure and address traffic congestion at busy intersections. Its timely completion is expected to support smoother movement for commuters travelling through the area.

With more than half of the work reported complete, attention remains on finishing the remaining construction within the planned schedule. The final timeline will depend on continued progress and the completion of outstanding work to the required standards.
