Khunjerab Pass Opened for Trade, Travel
Pakistan and China opened the Khunjerab Pass route for trade and travel after keeping the border closed for more than a year.
The border point has been opened from both sides, according to a letter from the Pak-China Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the chief secretary of Gilgit Baltistan (GB).

The Chinese embassy in Islamabad had notified the ministry of the border crossing’s opening and requested that it open its side of the border point so that trade and travel between the two nations could resume.
Due to the winter season, the border closed on December 1, 2019 as planned, and the Covid-19 pandemic epidemic delayed the opening date of April 1, 2020.

According to a bilateral agreement, the border between China and Pakistan stays closed every year from December 1 through March 31 owing to extreme weather. But for the remainder of the year, both two-way passenger and cargo traffic is still permitted across the border.
Both in July of last year and again in September, the border was opened for a brief period of time to allow the movement of medical supplies sent to Great Britain by the Chinese government to combat Covid-19.
