The United Nanbai Association has announced another increase in the prices of roti and naan in Lahore, attributing the hike to rising flour prices and higher operating expenses. Meanwhile, the district administration has warned that strict action will be taken against tandoors charging rates above the officially notified prices.
New Prices Announced
According to the association, a simple roti will now cost Rs. 25, while naan will be sold for Rs. 35.
Nanbai representatives said the decision follows a sharp increase in flour prices, with a 20-kilogram flour bag reaching Rs. 2,400, while fine flour is now priced at around Rs. 12,000.
Bakers Cite Rising Operational Costs
The association stated that increasing flour prices, expensive LPG, and higher packaging costs have made it financially unfeasible to sell roti at the government-approved rate of Rs. 16.
Representatives have urged the government to begin negotiations within the next three days to address their concerns. They also warned that tandoors across the city could shut down if no solution is reached.
Administration Warns Against Overcharging
The district administration reiterated that action will be taken against anyone charging more than the officially notified prices.
Officials said enforcement teams will continue monitoring tandoors to ensure consumers receive roti and naan at government-approved rates.
Karachi Also Sees Price Hike
Meanwhile, several tandoors in Karachi have also raised the price of roti by Rs. 5, increasing it from Rs. 20 to Rs. 25 due to rising production costs.
The latest price increases have once again highlighted the impact of inflation and rising input costs on everyday food items across Pakistan.
