The traffic police on Sunday launched a citywide crackdown targeting underage and unlicensed drivers, announcing strict enforcement action against violations of traffic laws.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that vehicles and motorcycles being driven by underage individuals will be impounded and shifted to police stations, in addition to the issuance of challans.

He stated that drivers operating vehicles with learner permits or expired licenses will face a fine of Rs. 5,000 for cars, while motorcycle riders will be fined Rs. 2,000 for similar violations. He further warned that strict action will also be taken against triple riding.

The CTO emphasized that commercial vehicles cannot be operated on car or motorcycle licenses, adding that a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license is mandatory for buses, wagons, and other public transport vehicles. He also said that drivers of trucks, trailers, and heavy transport vehicles must possess a valid Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) license.

Shirazi noted that all licensing offices across the city will remain open despite the holiday, and special checkpoints have been established outside these offices to identify unlicensed motorists. He added that online services for learner permits, duplicate licenses, and renewals are also available for public facilitation.

According to the CTO, the city currently operates 11 driving testing centers, along with two mobile vans and 20 facilitation centers.

He further warned that underage driving and driving without a valid license will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and directed circle officers to personally supervise the ongoing crackdown.
