Land Developers Beneficiaries of Riverfront Project: LHC
Lahore: According to the Lahore High Court, the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) served the interests of land developers.

Justice Shahid Karim, after hearing a number of petitions against the project, stated that the conversion of agricultural land into a housing development was unjustified because the country was already susceptible to food insecurity.
The court noted that the government must study the 2013 Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Act passed by the Indian legislature.
The judge found egregious irregularities in the project and noted that the master plan was approved by the RUDA in December 2020, while the land acquisition notification was issued earlier, on October 6, 2020.

The judge also considered the forest department’s response that the project would necessitate the felling of trees to make way for housing structures.
The judge adjourned the hearing until Oct. 12 for additional arguments.
