LHC Pursues AGP Help on Validity of Ravi Urban Development
The Lahore High Court sent a summons to the Punjab Advocate General requesting his help about the legality of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (Ruda).
Justice Shahid Karim noted that it appeared there was no element of public welfare in the authority’s acquisition of land when he heard a petition challenging the constitutionality of the Ruda Act 2020.

Attorney Waqar A. Sheikh argued on behalf of the petitioner, a private developer, that the contested Act was irrational and in violation of both the Local Government Act 2019 and Article 140-A of the Constitution.
Without conducting an environmental impact study of the proposal, the LHC previously halted the Ruda for Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project’s land acquisition procedure.

Despite these circumstances, they claimed, the Ruda’s land acquisition collector passed 18 awards on the same day totaling several billions of rupees.
The petitioners also questioned the validity of the Land Acquisition Act of 1894’s prohibition on the compelled acquisition of land for business purposes.
