Lower Water Allocation will Harm Crops in Sindh: Minister
Muhammad Ismail Rahoo, the agriculture minister for Sindh, has voiced fear that the province’s rice and cotton harvests might be harmed by the Indus River System Authority’s (IRSA) release of less water than was intended.

He also addressed the acute water situation in Sindh, stating that there is a 40% water scarcity there and a 60% reduction in water levels at the Kotri Barrage as a result of the Tarbela Dam’s water level dropping below expectations.
If Sindh’s water shortfall is not addressed, at least three significant Kharif crops in the Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages would be negatively impacted, Minister Rahoo said.

The second crop after rice that requires the most water for growth is sugarcane, he continued, but the crop is already declining as a result of the water shortage.
