LWMC to Get Autonomous Status Through New Legislative Act
According to press sources, the Punjab government has planned to transform the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) into an autonomous entity with the right to set regulations and ordinances. In this regard, the government has finalized the Lahore Waste Management Authority (LWMA) Act-2021.

Following the passage of the act, the LWMC would be separated from the Municipal Corporation of Lahore (MCL), and enforcement inspectors would be allowed expanded authority to address public cleanliness issues.
In addition, following the implementation of the LWMA Act-2021, the authority would have the authority to develop standards, procedures, processes, and guidelines for the collection, disposal, and management of solid waste, as well as the authority to assess fees for registration, licensing of solid waste collection and disposal, and other services.

After the ratification of the legislation, according to the sources, the CEO and agency as a whole will have the exclusive authority to draft laws and regulations, as well as hire magistrates to handle public complaints.
