The M-1 Motorway from Peshawar to Rashakai has been closed to traffic due to dense fog and poor visibility, as reported by the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP).
The decision to close the road was made with the public’s safety in mind, according to a motorway police official. Additionally, he cautioned the populace against making needless early-morning trips.
Additionally, for the best road safety in inclement weather, the highway police official advises using both front and rear fog lights.
The National Highways and Motorway Police also announced that cars without an M-Tag will not be permitted to travel on motorways. Before December 31, residents must obtain an M-Tag, per official orders.
The NHMP dramatically raised its fines earlier this year by up to 900%. The penalty for exceeding the speed limit is now Rs. 2500 instead of Rs. 750.
The largest increase was in the penalties for interfering with an emergency vehicle, which went from Rs. 500 to Rs. 5000. The penalties for other moving infractions, like driving at night without the appropriate lighting, driving on the incorrect side of the road, and operating a vehicle without a license, have also been greatly raised.
