ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works has directed relevant authorities to accelerate work on delayed federal housing projects in Islamabad and ensure that the interests of allottees remain protected.
The committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, reviewed the progress of the Lifestyle Residency Apartments and the I-12 Flats project during its latest meeting.
Lifestyle Residency Faces Longstanding Delay
Lifestyle Residency Apartments in G-13 were among the projects discussed by the committee. The development was launched in 2016 on government-owned land, with the original project schedule reportedly targeting completion within 36 months.
The initial timeline indicated that possession could have been delivered around 2019. However, the project remains delayed, leaving a number of allottees, including retired federal employees, waiting for possession.
The project’s slow progress has previously been raised before other oversight forums, with concerns also expressed by the federal housing authorities.
I-12 Flats Still Under Construction
The committee also examined the Pakistan Housing Authority’s apartment project in Sector I-12/1.
The project comprises approximately 3,200 housing units and remains under construction. No confirmed completion date was announced as part of the latest committee proceedings.
The I-12 area has also experienced longstanding delays involving other housing and development initiatives, making progress on the apartment project particularly relevant for prospective residents and existing allottees.
Parliamentary Oversight Continues
The latest National Assembly review comes amid wider parliamentary scrutiny of delays in federal housing projects.
Other housing schemes in Islamabad, including projects administered by the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority, have also faced questions regarding construction progress, funding, revised costs, and completion schedules.
These reviews indicate continued pressure on housing agencies to improve project delivery and provide clearer timelines to people awaiting possession.
Committee Calls for Faster Completion
The committee instructed the relevant authorities to speed up development work on the projects under review while safeguarding the rights and interests of their allottees.
However, the meeting did not establish a new binding completion deadline for either Lifestyle Residency or the I-12 Flats project.
For affected allottees, the directive represents renewed parliamentary oversight, but actual progress will depend on construction activity, funding, administrative decisions, and resolution of outstanding project issues.
