NA Panel Approves NEPRA Amendment Bill
Islamabad: On Thursday, a parliamentary committee approved the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Amendment Bill 2020, granting the government broad authority to impose surcharges on energy users in order to offset the cost of electricity theft and the inefficiency of power distribution companies.

In addition to high taxes, power consumers today pay three other sorts of surcharges: the Neelum-Jhelum surcharge, the financial cost surcharge, and the tariff rationalization surcharge.
The Power Division claims that the government will be able to levy levies on power users that will equal 10% of the price of electricity.
Five people voted in favor of the measure, and four people against it in the National Assembly Standing Committee on Power, which is presided over by MNA Chaudhry Salik Hussain.
IMF assistance is anticipated by March 24.
The greatest surcharges, according to MNA Amir Dogar, would be up to Rs1.40 per unit. He also noted that power was already quite expensive.
