NEPRA Notifies 89-Paisa Per Unit Increase in Power Tariff
Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced an increase in power rates of Rs. 0.8954 per unit as part of the head fuel charge adjustment for January 2021. (FCA).

NEPRA states that, with the exception of lifeline customers, the FCA for January 2021 will be paid to all consumer categories of electricity distribution corporations (DISCOs) in the billing month of March 2021. (those with less than 50 units). Customers of K-Electric, however, would not be covered by this FCA.
Documents show that, in comparison to the reference fuel charge component of Rs, the actual fuel charge component for January 2021 was recorded at Rs6.6530 per unit. 5.5776 for each unit. A power rate increase of Rs0.8954 per unit was approved due to the month-over-month variance in fuel prices.

NEPRA is required to make adjustments to the approved tariff on account of any variations in the fuel charges monthly under the provisions of Section 31(7) of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act 1997 (NEPRA Act), read with the mechanism/formula established by the authority in the tariff determinations for the DISCOs for the FY2017–18 and notified in the official gazette.
