New Gwadar Int’l Airport to be Operational by 2023
The New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA), a $246 million Greenfield airport being constructed on 4,300 acres, will be operational by September 2023, according to Islamabad.

According to the official source, the passenger terminal building of the project would be finished by June 2023, the air traffic control work by March 2023, and the overall construction of the airport by September 2023.
The airport will be managed and operated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) under the open sky policy. It will be owned by a joint venture between Pakistan, Oman, and China and will handle domestic and international operations.
The development of the airport is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is a pillar of China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative.

A grant agreement between China and Pakistan was signed in May 2017 to finance the project. In January of 2018, 300 boreholes were drilled at various locations across the project site to conduct soil testing.
In March of 2019, the groundbreaking ceremony took place, and construction is expected to be completed in 2022.
