PESHAWAR: The Hayatabad Toll Plaza Underpass has been inaugurated in Peshawar following the completion of a Rs1.6 billion road infrastructure project. The new facility is aimed at improving traffic movement in Hayatabad and surrounding areas.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi inaugurated the underpass during a ceremony attended by provincial ministers, parliamentarians, local representatives and residents.

The project was completed in 90 days, according to officials. It covers approximately 500 metres and includes a 130-metre barrel, 665 piles and a two-lane underpass.

The new route provides direct connectivity for traffic travelling from Detour Road on the Bara side toward Ring Road. The arrangement is expected to reduce traffic pressure around the Hayatabad Toll Plaza.

Officials said the project was developed to address congestion and improve the movement of vehicles through the area. The underpass is also expected to reduce delays for commuters using the surrounding road network.

The improved traffic route could help streamline daily movement between Hayatabad and adjoining areas. It may also support smoother access to Ring Road for vehicles using the new connection.

Members of the provincial cabinet, including Meena Khan Afridi, Shafi Jan, Mian Umar Kakakhel and Adil Iqbal, attended the inauguration. National Assembly members Junaid Akbar and Asif Khan, along with other parliamentarians, political representatives and citizens, were also present.

The opening of the Hayatabad Toll Plaza Underpass adds another major road infrastructure facility to Peshawar’s transport network. Its performance will depend on traffic management and the continued maintenance of the completed infrastructure.
