Next Year Declared as ‘Decade of Dams’ by PM
According to press reports, on February 14 (Monday), the Prime Minister of Islamabad declared the next year to be the “Decade of Dams.” He added that the intention is to construct more than ten dams.

During an event on water security and development in Islamabad, the prime minister reportedly stated that the construction of enormous hydroelectric dams will help alleviate the country’s energy issue while simultaneously strengthening its water security. Large water storage facilities, such as the ‘Kalabagh Dam,’ he claimed, are essential to resolving the nation’s water shortage issues.
After addressing Sindh province’s concerns and issues with the project, he suggested that the initiative would be launched in collaboration with the province. Given the country’s rapidly expanding population, the prime minister declared that the water stored in the dams would be used for agriculture and domestic requirements.

According to Michael Rogers, president of the International Commission on Large Dams, the 10 dams project is an outstanding move in the right direction. He also praised the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, which the Water and Power Development Authority constructed (WAPDA). He added that the organization would provide whatever technical assistance was required to achieve the objective.
