NHA to Join N-55 with Peshawar-Torkham Expressway
Islamabad: According to news sources, the National Highway Authority (NHA) intended to link the Peshawar-Torkham Expressway (PTEX) with National Highways 5 (N-5) and N-55. The decision was made in response to recommendations from the World Bank to increase North-South connection.

In 2018, the World Bank granted $407 million for the construction of a 48-kilometer road between Peshawar and Torkham. The NHA will conduct a project study design, and the same company that is constructing the Peshawar-Torkham highway will be responsible for conducting the project study design and producing a feasibility report.

In this regard, the executive board has been issued a summary for approval. Notably, the N55 is a 1,250-kilometer route connecting Karachi and Peshawar, while the N-5 is the longest motorway connecting Karachi and the Torkham border.
Both highways are essential for maintaining business relations between Karachi in the south and the northern portion of Pakistan, as well as the Central Asian nations.
