Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant oil and gas discovery at its exploratory well, Bobi Deep-1, located within the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease in Sindh’s Sanghar district.
In a notification issued on June 3, 2026, OGDCL stated that it operates the lease with a 100 percent working interest. During a cased-hole Drill Stem Test (DST) conducted in the Massive Sand interval of the Lower Goru Formation, the well successfully produced 2,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 1.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD).
The test was performed using a 32/64-inch choke, while the wellhead flowing pressure was recorded at 1,050 psi.
According to the company, Bobi Deep-1 was re-entered on May 3, 2026, to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Massive Sand reservoir within the Lower Goru Formation. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,305 meters in the Sembar Formation using OGDCL’s in-house technical expertise and operational resources.
OGDCL described the discovery as a major breakthrough for the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease, marking the first hydrocarbon find from the Massive Sand play in the area. The company noted that the discovery opens up a new exploration horizon and reduces geological risks for similar prospects in the surrounding region, creating additional opportunities for future resource development.
The company believes the discovery will contribute to strengthening Pakistan’s domestic energy supply by utilizing indigenous resources while expanding the country’s hydrocarbon reserves base.
Market analysts at Arif Habib Limited estimate that the discovery could add approximately PKR 1.67 per share annually to OGDCL’s earnings.
OGDCL further emphasized that the successful discovery highlights the untapped potential of Pakistan’s sedimentary basins and reinforces the country’s efforts to enhance long-term energy security through local resource development.
