Over 80 Quake-Hit Schools Await Reconstruction in Shangla
Over eighty schools and dozens of other government facilities in the Shangla area that were destroyed by the earthquake on October 8, 2005 are still awaiting renovation. The quake had also resulted in over 100 deaths in the district.

The 7.6 magnitude earthquake devastated the northern portions of the country, including Azad Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of approximately 80,000 people.
Shangla was one of the worst-affected districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and according to the education department, 204 schools for boys and girls developed cracks and were subsequently demolished by the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra).

Similarly, Erra destroyed a large number of forest department offices, dwellings, and hospitals, some of which are still unfinished and posing complications for officials and locals.
ADEO Ubaidullah Khan stated that a total of 88 schools of the Erra’s non-strategy project had yet to be renovated. Of these, 59 were under construction and finances for the remaining 20 were pending approval. In addition, eight further schools for boys were severely damaged by the earthquake.
