Pak-China Collaboration 100-Acre Chilli Project Completed
Lt. Gen. (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa, chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority, announced on Sunday in Islamabad that the pilot project of chilli farms in the country had been completed with the assistance of Chinese agricultural specialists.

Asim stated that this project would also help increase the country’s exports of spices.
He stated that this effort would increase yield, seed quality, skill development, agricultural labour, and food processing.
According to official sources, the chilli farming initiative is estimated to generate more than 8,000 tonnes of dried chilies and more than 100,000 rupees per acre in net income for local farmers.
The sources added that in the first phase of the Chili Contract Farming Project, China-Pakistan Agricultural Cooperation Pilot Zone will be established in five years, while in Phase II, 30,000 acres of chilli will be cultivated and a pigment-extracting plant with a US$200 million industrial output will be constructed.

In five to ten years, during the third phase, a China-Pakistan food industrial park will be developed to promote the condiment sector in both nations.
In accordance with agricultural cooperation under the CPEC megaproject, a plan of 20 projects is being implemented to modernise the agriculture sector in Pakistan, including new seeds to increase crop yield, upgrading of irrigation system, promotion of agri-based industry for value addition, and establishment of a global chain network.
