Pakistan, India Issue Diplomatic Visas After 28-Month Hiatus
Islamabad: Islamabad and New Delhi have issued assignment visas to each other’s diplomats after a gap of approximately 28 months as both sides attempt to repair relations that have been frozen since 2019 when a suicide bomber attacked a military convoy in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Later that year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi revoked IIOJK’s semi-autonomous status in order to consolidate his control over the occupied region, prompting indignation in Pakistan and the suspension of diplomatic ties and bilateral trade.
Pakistan issued visas to 33 Indian officials, while India gave assignment visas to seven Pakistani diplomats.
According to sources, an agreement between Pakistan and India to issue visas on assignment applications by June 15 is possible.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff, urged India and Pakistan to “bury the past” and move toward cooperation in March of this year.
However, he emphasized that it was India’s responsibility to establish a “conducive atmosphere” and that the United States had a role in ending regional hostilities.
