Pakistan Needs $100 Billion to Meet UN Goals
According to the International Monetary Fund, Pakistan will need to increase annual spending on education by about 5.7 percent of GDP, healthcare by about 6 percent, invest about $24.5 billion in expanding access to electricity, and spend $76 billion on expanding its road network in order to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target by 2030. (IMF).

Although Pakistan has made considerable improvements, it is now performing worse than its counterparts in key SDG sectors. According to the SDG indices for each sector, Pakistan’s present performance in the areas of education, health, power, and water and sanitation is below the average for Emerging Market and Developing Economies (EMDEs).
Although low spending is a major factor in education’s poor performance, there is still room to improve spending effectiveness.
To achieve the SDG targets, annual total education investment (public and private) will need to grow by almost 5.7 percent of GDP (from 3.9 percent in 2018 to 9.6 percent in 2030).

The IMF said that Pakistan’s road density is lower than that of its peers and that road length has not improved over the past 20 years. There are significant financial needs to increase connectivity and the road network.
