Pakistan Railways Receive PKR 14 Billion for Track Maintenance
ISLAMABAD, January 11, 2023- Pakistan Railways (PR) will receive PKR 14 billion to repair its infrastructure, which was severely damaged by torrential rains and floods in Baluchistan.
As stated in PC-I, the funds will only be utilized to repair the province’s deteriorating rail infrastructure. This involves the construction of a new 100-kilometer track between Ahmedwal and Dalbadin on the Quetta-Taftan segment, the repair of the track between Nokundi Kohi and Taftan on the Quetta-Taftan section, and the 160.024-kilometer track between Bostan and Chaman on the Quetta-Chaman portion. According to the Ministry of Railway, these initiatives would facilitate travel between Balochistan and other provinces and provide new employment prospects in the region. In August, Pakistan Railways halted train service in several locations, mostly in Baluchistan and Sindh, where the rails were destroyed by flash floods. After a few days of repairing the broken track, however, the department resumed operations.
