Pakistan Ranked Fourth Worst in Gender Parity
Karachi: According to a World Economic Forum (WEF) report, the gender gap in Pakistan has increased by 0.7 percentage points to 55.6%, making it one of the worst four countries in the world for gender parity. Only Iraq, Yemen, and Afghanistan performed worse. Pakistan dropped to 153rd place out of 156 countries assessed.

According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2021, Pakistan was ranked in the bottom 10 nations in two of the four sub-indices. The nation was placed 153rd in terms of health and survival and 152nd in terms of economic opportunity and participation.
According to the report’s data, Pakistani women do not enjoy the same rights to inheritance, land ownership, or other non-financial assets. But, it also noted that there are encouraging signals about the proportion of women who hold professional and technical positions (25.3%, up from 23.4% in the previous index edition).

It added that the female literacy rates are as low as 53.7% in Afghanistan, 65.8% in India, 59.7% in Nepal, 57% in Bhutan and 46.5% in Pakistan, with little promise of closing in the near future.
