Pakistan to Receive USD 2.8 Billion From IMF Under New SDRs
Islamabad: According to a recent report by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Pakistan will receive USD 2.8 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the form of additional Special Drawing Rights (SDRs). This amount is part of the banking institution’s attempts to keep the members’ state’s economy afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The IMF adopted a USD 650 billion global economic stimulus plan on August 2, with member nations getting funds according to their quotas. The decision of the IMF’s board of governors on the SDR fund will go into effect on August 23, 2021, and Pakistan will receive the allotted amount by the end of August.
In addition, after the approval and transfer of the authorized amount, the SBP current account reserves would be slightly greater than USD 20 billion, the largest in the nation’s financial history, but the maximum financial receipts under the current government are 19.46 billion.

This is the third SDR to be approved by the IMF and the greatest transfer of emergency funds; the last SDR was granted in 2009, amid the global market recession.
